Everything To Know: Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast Augmentation Surgery, very commonly known as ‘boob job’ is a cosmetic surgical procedure to increase breast size. The procedure involves placing breast implants under the breast tissue or chest muscle.

The procedure is ideal for women who after weight reduction or pregnancy want to achieve a more rounded breast shape or change the breast size.

About The Procedure

There are several ways to move forward with a Breast Augmentation surgery, it is best to consult your doctor first and move forward under an expert’s guidance.

The procedure is done through the insertion of saline or silicone implants. A small surgical incision is made which is not visible to a naked eye. The implants are inserted behind the breast tissue or the chest muscle.

There are two basic types of breast implants: saline and silicone gel. The saline-filled implants are made of silicone shells with sterile saltwater. Silicone gel-filled implants, on the other hand, are filled with plastic gel. The latter is a common choice among the patients as they tend to feel realistic in comparison but pose more risks.

Potential Risks Or Side Effects

Just like other surgeries, a breast augmentation surgery comes with some risks. Patients may experience pain, infection, scarring, implant rupture, wrinkling of the affected area, and more. A lot of common risks come with breast augmentation surgery. The complications that may arise include:

1. Pain during recovery

2. Bleeding or bruising

3. Infection on the surgical area or surrounding the implant

4. Rupture or leaking of the implant

5. Discharge from the breast or at the incision site

Recovering from the Breast Augmentation surgery

Here’s what to expect after the surgery: your surgeon will advise you to wear a strong surgery bra or a sports bra that compresses your breasts for the extra support needed during the recovery period. They may also prescribe a medication for pain just in case the need arises. You will have to take it easy for a few weeks after the surgery. You must prohibit yourself from regular work and recreational activities for a few days, but it varies from person to person.

Your surgeon would advise you not to engage in exercise or physical activity in order to avoid anything strenuous for another two weeks. Too much movement can also be very painful for the patient.

The side effects of the surgery such as swelling and tenderness may stay for a while but once the healing is done, you’ll be able to see results immediately.
